Four-star 2026 cornerbacks Brody Jennings, Chauncey Kennon, Samari Matthews and Camdin Portis, plus four-star safety Tamarion Watkins, are on official visits to Miami this weekend. Portis, Jaelen Waters and Jontavius Wyman are currently committed to Miami at CB. Miami does not have a 2026 safety commit.
Matthews is the highest-ranked CB on an official visit to Miami this weekend. The 247Sports composite rankings have Matthews as the 55th overall prospect, fifth CB and sixth player in North Carolina out of Cornelius, Hough. Florida State, South Carolina and Texas are hosting Matthews for OVs in June.
In three seasons playing varsity for Hough, Matthews has 77 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, four interceptions, two fumbles recoveries and one pass defended. At 6'0 and 180 pounds, Matthews has good length and size to compete at the next level.
Kennon is the second-highest-ranked prospect taking an official visit to Miami this weekend among defensive backs. The 247Sports composite rankings have Kennon 67th overall, the eighth-ranked CB and ninth in Florida out of Sarasota, Booker.
Auburn hosted Kennon for an official visit the weekend of May 16, with scheduled visits to Georgia, Florida State and LSU in the next three weekends. In 2024, Kennon had 10 receptions for 317 yards and six touchdowns, 33 tackles, 1.0 TFL, 16 passes defended, one interception, and one forced fumble.
Portis is the only Miami commit on an official visit to Coral Gables this weekend. The 247Sports composite ranks Portis as the 361st prospect, 28th CB and 18th player in North Carolina out of Charlotte, Myers Park. Miami is the only program that Portis is scheduled to take an OV to, per his 247Sports page.
Portis had 58 tackles, 6.0 TFLs, 2.0 sacks, three quarterback hurries, two passes defended and one interception in nine games in 2024. At 6'0 and 170 pounds, Portis has good length but will have to continue adding mass to his frame when he gets to Miami.
Jennings, who is committed to Michigan, is the 273rd 2026 prospect, 22 CB and 42nd player in Florida out of Jacksonville, Mandarin. Mandarin is the same high school that produced Miami QB Carson Beck. Jennings has taken OVs to Auburn and Illinois and has Florida, Georgia and Michigan scheduled.
Watkins is the 341st prospect in the 2026 class, the 28th safety and seventh player in South Carolina out of Rock Hill Northwestern. South Carolina is the favorite for a commitment from Watkins, with two 247Sports crystal balls logged in the Gamecocks' favor and a 51.6 percent chance to commit per On3.
Watkins had 75 tackles, 8.0 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, one QB hurry, six passes defended, three interceptions, one forced fumble and one recovery per MaxPreps. At 6.3.5" and 199 pounds, Watkins has exceptional size in the secondary. Miami defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman is the primary recruiter for Watkins.
