Vanderbilt rose to No. 9 in Sunday's Associated Press Top 25 — its highest ranking since 1937 — overtaking Miami, which slid one spot and is now tied at No. 10 with BYU. The move follows Vandy's 17-10 win over then-No. 15 Missouri to reach 7-1, while Miami handled Stanford but couldn't hold its place in a crowded top tier.
The top six held at No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 Indiana, No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Georgia and No. 6 Oregon. The Buckeyes received 53 first-place votes; Indiana got 11, and Texas A&M received one. In the back half of the top 10, Ole Miss and Georgia Tech swapped to Nos. 7 and 8, respectively, ahead of Vanderbilt's jump and Miami's tie with BYU at No. 10.

The Big 12 placed five teams in the poll — BYU (T-10), Texas Tech (13), Cincinnati (17), Houston (22) and Utah (24). The SEC led with nine ranked teams, the Big Ten had five, and the ACC counted four (Georgia Tech, Miami, Virginia and Louisville).
At 7-1 (3-1 SEC), the Commodores own a program-record three regular-season wins over ranked opponents and visit No. 20 Texas next. Moving into Week 10, they get the respect from the AP Poll at the expense of Miami.
For the Hurricanes, a convincing victory didn't prevent a one-spot dip, but it was still a good bounce back win after suffering their first loss of the year. The Hurricanes sit tied for 10th as the ACC's co-standard-bearer with Georgia Tech in the top eight and Virginia and Louisville in the teens. Miami will need to just focus on each week and the rankings will fix themselves if they can win out.
