Miami Hurricanes move to 5-1 on the season
Reneau was the focal point from the opening tip, finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds on 10-of-10 shooting, including a made three, in just 19 minutes. Donaldson added 21 points, hit all eight of his shots and went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc while handing out six assists. Reserve big man Salih Altuntas gave Miami another double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and freshman wing Shelton Henderson chipped in 11 points.
The game was essentially decided in the first half. Miami strung together runs of 12-2, 16-1 and 21-5, to blow the game open and build a 50-19 halftime lead. By the time the second half settled in, the Hurricanes had pushed their largest lead to 59 points, with the starters watching as the bench closed out a comfortable win.
Miami shot 61% from the floor (38 of 62), went 10 of 23 from three and dished out 28 assists on those 38 made baskets. The Hurricanes dominated the paint 52-12, owned a 44-29 edge on the glass and turned 19 Delaware State turnovers into 35 points going the other way.
Delaware State, which came in trying to snap a four-game road slide, never found any rhythm. The Hornets shot just 26% from the field and 22% from beyond the arc. Ademar Santos led Delaware State with 10 points on 4-of-16 shooting, while Zion Bethea added nine and Corey Perkins finished with seven.
Miami improved to 5-1 overall and 5-0 at Watsco Center. Now the schedule gets real again. Miami heads to Orlando for the ESPN Events Invitational, opening Thursday against No. 9 BYU, which just hammered No. 23 Wisconsin 98-70 behind a 26-point night from Richie Saunders.
