Miami climbed to No. 4 in Sunday’s Associated Press Top 25, a one-spot rise that came with three first-place votes — the program’s first since Nov. 19, 2017. That bump follows a 3-0 start that includes wins over then-No. 6 Notre Dame and then-No. 18 South Florida. The top three held steady with Ohio State at No. 1, Penn State at No. 2 and LSU at No. 3, while Georgia sits at No. 5.

Miami opened the year by beating Notre Dame 27-24 on Aug. 31, handled Bethune-Cookman 45-3 on Sept. 6 and routed South Florida 49-12 on Sept. 13. Through three games, the Hurricanes have outscored opponents 121-39. Notre Dame and USF were ranked at kickoff,.
Quarterback Bec has thrown for 812 yards on 77.3% passing with 7 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Mark Fletcher Jr. leads the ground game with 272 rushing yards and 4 scores, while freshman Malachi Toney has 18 catches for 228 yards. On defense, Bryce Fitzgerald has 2 interceptions and Rueben Bain Jr. leads with 15 total tackles and 1.5 sacks.
The Voters rewarded Miami after a ranked win over USF while keeping the nation’s pecking order intact at the top. The ACC now has three ranked teams (Miami at No. 4, Florida State at No. 7 and Georgia Tech at No. 18) after the Yellow Jackets’ upset of Clemson. USF dropped out of the rankings following its loss in Miami Gardens. The SEC leads all leagues with 11 ranked teams and the Big Ten has seven.
Miami hosts Florida on Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m., then visits Florida State on Oct. 4. Those are chances to add quality wins and protect a clean record as the season goes on.
