Miami added another blue-chip to its 2027 class when Fort Lauderdale four-star DeMarcus DeRoche announced his commitment, choosing the Hurricanes over Florida State, Florida, NC State, Auburn, Louisville and Illinois. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound athlete is the fifth local pledge in the cycle, continuing Mario Cristobal’s push to lock down South Florida.

The Cardinal Gibbons junior transferred in from Boyd Anderson ahead of this season and produced on both sides of the ball as a sophomore. He logged seven sacks on defense and five touchdowns on offense. He’s also a two-sport contributor who averaged nearly 10 points, seven rebounds and 1.5 blocks as a varsity basketball player.
DeRoche’s decision is the latest sign Miami’s 2027 group is pacing with the nation’s best. He joins cornerback Kenton Dopson (Miami Norland), receiver Ah’Mari Stevens (Miami Edison), safety Jaylyn Jones (Davie Western) and offensive tackle Zaquan Linton (Palm Beach Central) as early commitments.
2027 Miami Hurricanes football commits
- Kenton Dopson — CB, Miami Norland (Miami, FL): On3 Industry Rating 92.99 (No. 44 nationally, No. 6 CB, No. 6 in FL). Dopson is expected to look into reclassifying to 2026.
- Ah’Mari Stevens — WR, Miami Edison (transfer from American Heritage): On3 Industry Rating 91.15 (No. 152 nationally, No. 23 WR).
- DeMarcus DeRoche — ATH (WR/EDGE), Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale, FL): On3 Industry Rating 87.44 (No. 284 nationally).
- Jaylyn Jones — S, Western/McArthur (Davie/Hollywood, FL): On3 Industry Rating 86.98 (No. 294 nationally).
- Zaquan Linton — OT, Palm Beach Central (Wellington, FL).
Miami is still focused on the 2026 class but it's never too early, especially in the current state of college football, to see the 2027 class coming together. With Miami having an overhaul at the receiver position, it's also a good sign that the Canes are recruiting the WR position well, even if it's two years away.
