Miami just landed one of the most important guards in the portal. Villanova transfer Acaden Lewis is committing to the Hurricanes, which now gives Jai Lucas a new lead guard after Miami lost major backcourt production this offseason.

Lewis is coming off a freshman year in which he averaged 12.2 points, 5.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game for Villanova while earning All-Big East second-team and All-Freshman Team honors.

Tre Donaldson graduated and entered the NBA draft process after averaging 16.4 points and 5.7 assists per game, while portal departures Tru Washington, Noam Dovrat, John Laboy and Jordyn Kee also thinned out the backcourt. Lewis will step in as one of the most accomplished guards on the roster the day he arrives.

Lewis finished second in the Big East in assists per game, third in total steals, and set Villanova freshman records for assists and steals. He had 26 points in a win at Georgetown, 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists against Xavier, and 14 points with a season-high 12 assists in another win over Xavier late in the year.

Lewis is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard from Washington, D.C., and he arrived to college as the No. 31 recruit in the 2025 class by ESPN. The 247Sports Composite had him No. 33 overall, No. 5 point guard and No. 1 player in Washington, D.C.

He originally signed with Kentucky before reopening his recruitment and choosing Villanova over a final group that included Miami. During that time he showed genuine interest in the Canes.

Lucas has also already added C Somto Cyril out of Georgia. The 6-foot-11 center averaged 9.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in 21.2 minutes per game for the Bulldogs last year.
