For the majority of the 2025 college football season, it appeared as though the Miami Hurricanes were on the trajectory of being an elite college football program. The true reality for the Hurricanes is that they are currently a little way off of becoming elite. Elite programs are consistent in winning, particularly in games these types of programs are predicted to win.
2025 marks the second straight year, the Miami Hurricanes football program lost in pivotal games against programs the Canes are capable of defeating. To some, losing close games might suggest that the game could have gone either way. Yes, it is a known fact that in the game of football, even dominant programs could have an "off day."
The difference between a good team and an elite team is that the elite team finds a way to win close games. Unfortunately, the Miami Hurricanes have found a way to lose contests late in the season when fans are anticipating a victory. Do not mistaken me, it is extremely difficult to complete a season unblemished.
Maybe the Miami Hurricanes are not ready to encounter the constant pressure that comes along with being a team of elite status. When the Canes win five or more games in a row, some tend to crown the program as one that is "head and shoulders" above the rest. Just when one thinks that the Miami Hurricanes are back, along comes a "letdown."
Coach Mario Cristobal has done an excellent job in recreating a Hurricanes football program that is highly competitive. No longer are the Miami Hurricanes searching for an identity. These last two seasons have given fans a "taste" of the on-the-field excellence, that could catapult the Canes into one of the best college football programs in the nation, in the future.
In the upcoming seasons, based on the last two campaigns, there is hope that the talent that is being accumulated on the Miami Hurricanes football roster, with new recruits and players transitioning into upperclassman, the Canes might not have to wait too long to claim the glory that many Hurricanes supporters have been patiently awaiting to materialize.
