Behind a monster night from Malik Reneau and a closing spurt from Tre Donaldson, the Miami Hurricanes rallied past Pitt 76-69 on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables.
The win pushed Miami to 12-2 overall and 1-0 in the ACC, while the Panthers fell to 7-7 and 0-1. Reneau was the best player on the floor. The junior forward finished with 28 points on 8-of-13 shooting, hit 2-of-5 from 3, and went a perfect 10-for-10 at the line. Donaldson added 19 points and three assists, and Miami lived at the stripe as a team, going 20-for-26 on free throws.

Miami Hurricanes defeat Pittsburgh Panthers 76-69
Pitt controlled the first half and looked comfortable doing it. After Miami jumped out to an 11-0 start, the Panthers responded with a 20-0 run of their own and built a 37-15 lead before taking a 43-33 advantage into halftime.
Miami opened the second half with a 15-2 surge to take its first lead at 48-45, then kept grinding as Pitt's offense slowed and the Panthers settled for tough looks. Miami won the second half 43-26.
Donaldson was the tone-setter late, and Pitt never found an answer. He scored 17 of his 19 points after halftime, including a stretch where he accounted for nine straight Miami points.
Pitt got 17 points and eight rebounds from Cameron Corhen, plus 16 points from Barry Dunning Jr. and 14 from Damarco Minor, but the Panthers couldn't make enough perimeter shots to protect the lead. They finished 6-for-25 from 3 and 9-for-17 at the line.
Miami wasn't sharp from deep either (4-for-22), but they did enough work inside to survive the cold shooting. Ernest Udeh Jr. grabbed 11 rebounds, and Reneau (eight boards) and Shelton Henderson (eight) helped Miami win the rebounding battle 43-28.
Up next, Pitt heads home to face Clemson on Saturday, Jan. 3, while Miami goes on the road to play Wake Forest on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
