Miami Hurricanes survive first major cut for elite 5-star 2028 EDGE rusher

Five-star edge rusher Darieon Prescott named Miami among his final eight schools, alongside Oregon, Notre Dame, Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State and Georgia. Prescott attends Bolingbrook High School in Bolingbrook, Illinois.

Prescott is one of the highest-ranked defensive prospects Miami has pursued in the 2028 cycle. The Rivals Industry Ranking has him No. 18 nationally, No. 5 among edge rushers and No. 1 in Illinois. 247Sports ranks him No. 7 overall and No. 3 at EDGE.

He was named to MaxPreps' Freshman All-America team after the 2024 season, then followed with a sophomore year that earned Southwest Prairie West All-Conference recognition and helped Bolingbrook reach the Illinois state quarterfinals.

In his sophomore season at Bolingbrook, Prescott posted 65 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, five sacks, 26 pressures, eight pass breakups, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two blocked kicks.

Prescott visited Notre Dame in June, and the Fighting Irish currently hold a 29.4% projection in Rivals' Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Miami has not yet scheduled a visit with Prescott, and that is the next major step for Mario Cristobal's staff.

Prescott would be Miami's first defensive commitment in 2028. Miami currently has quarterback Knox Annis and offensive tackle Kweli Fielder in the fold.

Miami has six players along the defensive line in its 2027 class.

The Canes' 2027 class is led by flip commit Jaiden Bryant. Bryant flipped from LSU and Lane Kiffin back in early June after being committed to the Tigers since January.
