Gaby Urrutia and Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reported on Tuesday morning the rumors that new Miami Hurricanes safeties coach Will Harris is leaving for an NFL position are false. Urrutia stated via an X post that Harris was seen in the building at Miami on Tuesday morning and working like normal.

Multiple Florida sites reported on Monday Harris was leaving to accept an NFL job. Harris left Florida after one year last week for Miami. Harris was an assistant secondary coach at Florida. Florida hired Harris in December 2023 after he spent one season as an assistant secondary coach with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Miami hired Harris as part of an overhaul of its defensive coaching staff. Defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman, line coach Damione Lewis and cornerbacks coach Zac Etheridge are all new to the Miami staff for 2025. Defensive line coach Jason Taylor is Miami's only returning assistant coach on defense.

The most recent social media post by Harris was on Friday, primarily thanking Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin and head coach Billy Napier for the opportunity to work with them and his players. Before working with the Chargers, Harris was on FBS staffs at Georgia Southern, San Jose State and Washington.

Rumors that Miami assistant Will Harris is leaving for the NFL are false

Etheridge and Harris inherit a rebuilt Miami secondary. Miami added four of the top 11 transfer CBs and Zechariah Poyser, who is the second-ranked safety in the 2025 portal. Harris helped Florida finish fourth in the SEC, with opponents completing 58 percent of their pass attempts and with 14 interceptions.

Miami was fifth in the ACC allowing opponents to complete 57.7 percent of their pass attempts and sixth with 14 interceptions. The pass-defense numbers Florida and Miami had during the 2024 season were pretty comparable. Etheridge and Harris have an important spring ahead of them working with defensive backs. Luckily for worried Miami fans, it looks like Harris won't be going anywhere.
