Miami is in the running for one of the most coveted edge rushers in the 2027 class after elite Maryland pass rusher Anthony Sweeney trimmed his recruitment to 12 schools.

EDGE Anthony Sweeney down to 12 schools

Sweeney, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound EDGE from Our Lady of Good Counsel in Olney, Md., is down to LSU, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Oregon, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Miami, Maryland and Texas Tech.

In the Rivals Industry Ranking, Sweeney checks in as the No. 21 player nationally, the No. 3 EDGE and the No. 1 prospect in Maryland.

As a sophomore in 2024, Sweeney totaled 49 tackles, 9 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks, along with a forced fumble. As a junior in 2025, Sweeney put up 34 total tackles (17 solo) and 3.5 sacks.

Miami's 2026 football recruiting class

The Hurricanes signed 30 high school prospects and rank in the national top 10 on major boards, including No. 11 in the 247Sports composite team rankings and No. 9 in On3's industry comparison, first in the ACC.

Headliners include five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell, a deep defensive line class, and a receiver group that looks to build on the success of recent years.
