Miami was picked unanimously to make the College Football Playoff by the nine ESPN writers voting following the week one results. Miami has an average ranking of 5.11 from the nine ESPN writers. Three writers give Miami byes in the first round of the CFP and the other six project the Hurricanes with a home game.

As an average five seed, Miami would be the highest-seeded team to play in the first round. The five seed would almost certainly project to play the best Group of Five team in the first round of the CFP at Hard Rock Stadium. All nine writers project Tulane as the top group of five team and CFP 12th seed.

The win over Notre Dame and how Miami won sets a great foundation for the 2025 season. MIami hosts Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, South Florida on September 13 and Florida on September 20 to conclude non-conference play.

Miami moved up two spots to 15th in the ESPN Football Power Index. Notre Dame is ninth in the ESPN FPI. The FPI projects Miami with 9.8 wins, 2.7 losses, a 33.2 percent chance to win the ACC and 46.7 percent to earn a CFP berth.

The performance of Carson Beck and the defense getting a stop on the final drive of the game was encouraging. Beck completed 20 passes in 31 attempts for 205 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Miami had two sacks and forced a false start on the final three plays of the game.

Miami was dominant defensively through three quarters, holding Notre Dame to 177 total yards and seven points. Notre Dame rallied in the fourth quarter with 17 points, but Miami got the stop when they needed to. Miami held Notre Dame to 314 total yards and only 93 rushing for the game.

Miami has a very favorable schedule. The first road game for Miami is not until October 4 at Florida State. Miami does not leave Florida until they play at SMU on November 1. Florida, Notre Dame and SMU were the only teams on the 2025 Miami schedule in the preseason rankings.
