Miami has struck early in its 2027 recruiting class, landing another big-time commitment from local four-star defensive back Jaylyn Jones. The Hollywood (Fla.) McArthur standout confirmed it on Monday, according to On3’s Stephen Wagner.
Listed at 6‑foot and 180 pounds, Jones has quickly made a name for himself as one of South Florida’s best sophomore safeties. A ballhawk in the secondary, he racked up 82 tackles, three sacks, 14 pass breakups and three interceptions last season, also forcing a fumble. At his previous school, Western High, he showed off elite instincts, then transferred to McArthur to step up his competition and continued to dominate the region.
Jones posted 14 PBUs and forced three sacks as a sophomore which is elite production for someone expecting another year of physical growth. His size at this stage offers coaches plenty to work with as he continues to fill out and refine his technique.

Jones’ quick-twitch burst and natural feel for covering the field impressed Miami’s staff early. He reportedly visited Coral Gables multiple times this spring and took part in 7-on-7 circuits where his range and physicality turned heads. On3 ranks him as the No. 220 overall prospect, No. 24 safety, and among relatively early top-tier talents in Miami’s future secondary.
His pledge marks the third commit in the Hurricanes’ 2027 class and the second DB, joining cornerback Kenton Dopson and receiver Ah’Mari Stevens, all of which are four-star recruits. That trio puts Miami in a good position for building a homegrown, balanced future roster.
Jones chose Miami over Florida State, Texas A&M, and Missouri which were programs that pursued him heavily. 247Sports already ranks Miami’s 2027 class No. 2 in the nation, but it is still really early in the cycle is and these rankings fluctuate a lot over the course of a couple years.
