Miami added another local piece to its 2027 recruiting class Tuesday when cornerback Sherrod Gourdine announced his commitment to the Hurricanes. Gourdine, a Broward County defensive back at McArthur High School, chose Miami over Indiana and Auburn.

Miami Hurricanes add 3-star CB Sherrod Gourdine

The Hurricanes have leaned heavily into South Florida talent, and Gourdine gives them another defensive back from their backyard.

Gourdine is listed at 5-foot-11 and 176 pounds, and 247Sports ranks him as an 88-rated prospect, the No. 29 athlete in the 2027 class and the No. 38 player in Florida.

Gourdine is the second McArthur defensive back to pick Miami recently, joining four-star safety Jaylyn Jones, who committed last summer. That is a major win and could be a sign of things to come. It's also pretty safe to say that Miami has a good hold on recruits in the South Florida region.

Miami Hurricanes scored two commitments on first day of spring ball

Earlier in the day, Key West defensive lineman Josh Johnson also committed to the Hurricanes, giving Miami two in-state defensive pickups on the same day. Johnson chose Miami over Florida and Iowa.

It was a big day for the program. Not only did the Hurricanes pick up two commitments on Tuesday, but Miami also held their first practice in the spring.

On3 ranks Johnson as the No. 87 DL, while 247Sports ranks him No. 100 among defensive linemen and No. 90 in the state of Florida.

Miami is going to have multiple recruits come to visit spring practice and we will begin to see more commitments fall into place as the summer gets closer. So far, the Hurricanes are on pace for another top recruiting class and that just goes to show how far the program has come under HC Mario Cristobal.
