Miami linebacker Jaylin Alderman had the best game of his collegiate career recording nine tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss in the 28-23 loss at Georgia Tech on Saturday. Alderman transferred to Miami from Louisville during the 2024 offseason.
Per David Lake of Inside the U, Alderman was the second-highest-graded Miami player by Pro Football Focus versus Georgia Tech. Alderman received an overall grade of 78.8 and an 80.7 run defense grade which was the highest for Miami at Georgia Tech. Alderman played a season-high 41 snaps at Georgia Tech.
Francis Mauigoa with 11 tackles was the only player for Miami with more stops than Alderman versus Georgia Tech. True freshman cornerback O.J. Frederique with an 80.5 grade from PFF was the only player to score higher than Alderman versus Georgia Tech.
Alderman has 18 tackles and 2.5 TFLs for Miami this season. Alderman had a breakout season for Louisville in 2023 with 62 tackles, 7.0 TFLs, 1.5 sacks and 2.0 passes defended. Miami LB coach Derek Nicholson recruited Alderman to Louisville before they came to Miami.
Alderman has earned more playing time with Raul Aguirre out with an injury. Expect Alderman to receive more snaps as Miami finishes the regular season on November 23 versus Wake Forest and on November 30 at Syracuse. Wake Forest and Syracuse rank in the bottom six in the ACC in rushing offenses.
Miami is 10th in the ACC versus conference opponents in 2024 allowing 144.83 rushing yards per game. Georgia Tech gashed Miami for a season-high 271 rushing yards and 5.65 yards per carry. Virginia Tech who had 206 rushing yards versus Miami was the only other opponent over 200.
The Hokies had a season-high yards per carry versus Georgia Tech. Miami needs to get better defensively to make a deep postseason run. Having the experienced and proven production Alderman has had throughout his career is valuable for Miami with every game big for the remainder of the season.
