The Miami Hurricanes have another big weekend coming up for their football program. With multiple prospects coming on official visits this week, it is important for Miami to make a lasting impression. With the No. 7 class in 2026, per On3, the Hurricanes could jump into the top five or even all the way to No. 1 if they play their cards right. One of the big names coming to Coral Gables soon is local five-star receiver Calvin Russell.

Russell is a 6-foot-5, 195-pound wide receiver from Miami Northwestern Senior High School, and is ranked as the No. 3 WR in the 2026 recruiting class. The top three ranking comes from 247Sports but On3's Industry Ranking isn't too far behind putting him at No. 4.

In the 2024 season, Russell recorded 39 receptions for 704 yards and 13 touchdowns, playing a big role in leading Miami Northwestern to a Florida Class 3A state championship. He is also a two-sport athlete excelling in basketball, where he averaged 12.8 points per game as an eighth grader and holds multiple D-I offers in the sport.

Russell recently revealed his top eight schools which includes Miami, Oregon, Michigan, LSU, Florida, Florida State, North Carolina, and Syracuse. Before his scheduled official visit to Miami on June 13, he will visit Oregon. The Ducks are one of the top contenders with some predicting Russell will commit to them. In addition to Oregon and Miami, Russell has also visited Florida on May 16 and LSU on May 30.

His mother, Chanivia Broussard, is a former Miami Hurricanes basketball player. Going to a high school so close to Miami may also influence his decision.

Russell is set to announce his college commitment on July 5. As a local dual-sport athlete with a strong family connection to Miami, the Hurricanes remain in good position, but they will need to impress the young star in the near future to lock him in.
