Despite a commitment from three-star 2028 prospect Knox Annis on Thursday, Miami is still expected to pursue four-star signal caller Neimann Lawrence in the same class, per Tom Loy of 247Sports. Lawrence is the 36th prospect, seventh QB and fifth player in Florida in the 2028 class per the 247Sports composite rankings.

Annis is not ranked in the 2028 class, but has a 0.8650 rating from 247Sports. Lawrence has a 0.9819 rating. Miami is beginning to build future rosters full of QBs that should allow the Hurricanes to develop signal callers from within and not have to continually sign a transfer at the position.

Miami received a commitment from 2027 four-star QB Israel Abrams last week. Abrams is the 44th-ranked prospect and third QB in the 2027 class. The Joliet, Illinois, Montini Catholic star has the potential to become a five-star prospect. There are 32 five-star players in the final rankings in each class.

Annis attends Jacksonville Mandarin, the same high school that produced former Miami QB Carson Beck. In two seasons at Mandarin, Annis has completed 51.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3.552 yards, 31 touchdowns and 18 interceptions, while running for 477 yards and another four scores.

Lawrence spent his freshman season in 2024 with Miami Ransom Everglades, last year at Miami Nortwestern and transferred to Plantation American Heritage ahead of his 2026 junior season. MaxPreps named Lawrence an All-American after his freshman and sophomore years.

Lawrence was more efficient as a sophomore despite playing against a higher level of competition. In 10 games in 2025, Lawrence completed 70,8 percent of his pass attempts for 1,971 yards, 32 TD and one interception with 104 rushing yards and one TD.

Miami currently has redshirt sophomore Judd Anderson, redshirt freshman Luke Nickel and freshman Dereon Coleman on the 2026 roster. All three reserve QBs on the 2026 Miami roster have eligibility remaining through at least 2026. Expect one of the three to transfer before 2028.
