Miami is off to a hot start and moved into the top 10 in the ESPN Football Power Index during its first of two bye weeks. The Hurricanes moved up to ninth from 11th in the week six ESPN FPI. Miami plays at Florida State on Saturday before another bye in week seven.

Florida State, 24th in the ESPN FPI, is the second-highest rated ACC team. Miami is the prohibitive favorite to win the ACC at 54.4 percent per the ESPN FPI. After their win over Florida State on Friday, Virginia is second with a 14.5 percent chance to win the ACC. Miami does not play Virginia during the 2025 regular season.

The ESPN FPI projects Miami with a 21.0 percent chance to finish the regular season undefeated, 100.0 percent to win six games and become bowl eligible, 66.9 percent to earn a College Football Playoff berth, 12.2 percent to make the title game and 6.2 percent to win the national championship.

Miami, North Carolina and SMU are the only ACC teams that have not played a conference game in 2025. Florida State is one of eight ACC teams with a conference loss in 2025. Miami can make a statement and essentially bury Florida State in the ACC standings with a win on Saturday in Tallahassee.

Entering week six, Miami is fourth nationally in the ESPN FPI in strength of record, 30th in strength of schedule, 64th in remaining SOS, third in game control and second in average in-game win probability. The remaining SOS should drop significantly for Miami after playing at Florida State on Saturday.

Miami is 10th overall in the ESPN FPI efficiency, 23rd in offensive efficiency, 12th in defensive efficiency and 89th in special teams efficiency. Florida State is sixth in overall efficiency, fifth in offensive efficiency, 28th in defensive efficiency and 125th in special teams efficiency.

Florida State and Miami are the only teams in the top four in the ACC in overall efficiency, defensive efficiency and offensive efficiency. Miami is far more balanced on both sides in 2025 after finishing 2024 17th in overall efficiency, second in offensive efficiency and 74th in defensive efficiency nationally.
