Miami moves the sticks on another top recruit after 4-star DB announces top 6 schools

Jaelyn Easterling-Flores, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound safety out of Arizona, announced his top six schools this past weekend and included the Miami Hurricanes alongside Auburn, Georgia Tech, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas.

Easterling-Flores is ranked as the No. 75 overall prospect, No. 5 safety and No. 4 player in his home state, per the 247Sports Composite.

Last season, Easterling-Flores put up 45 tackles, six TFLs, two sacks, two pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

Easterling-Flores has already completed official visits to Oregon, Florida, Auburn, Texas and Notre Dame. He hasn't been on Miami's campus just yet, but expect him to find some time to come down to Coral Gables during this season.

It is also a notable development that he didn't include Arizona or Arizona State in his final six schools. The hometown teams will always be something to watch in highly contested recruitments such as this one, but in situations where those programs don't make the final list, it takes off the pressure for teams across the country, such as Miami.

But while the Canes don't have to worry about in-state competitors for Easterling-Flores, some of the top-spending teams remain in the race. LSU, Texas and Oklahoma have some of the deepest pockets in the country. When they want a guy, they'll make sure to let it be known when negotiating. Miami has money, don't get it twisted, but we'll find out later on how much they will be willing to pay as his recruitment develops.

The process is just beginning for the 2028 class and Miami only has two commits so far in that period. But for 2027, Mario Cristobal and his staff have shown that the Hurricanes can compete with any team in the country on the recruiting trail.
