Quarterback Luke Nickel is not the highest-ranked signee in the 2025 class, but he might be the most talked about. After the performance by Emory Williams versus Iowa State in the Pop-Tarts Bowl there is expectation for Nickel to compete to be the starting QB for Miami in 2025 if the Hurricanes don't add a transfer signal caller.

Nickel was the first official signee announced by Miami on social media during Early National Signing Day on December 4. Nickel threw for 10,165 yards, 107 TDs and 20 interceptions with 700 rushing yards and another 15 scores during his high school career. Nickel was a three-year starter.

Nickel is a consensus four-star prospect who will instantly become the highest-ranked quarterback on the Miami roster. Quarterback is also a position to watch for Miami to potentially add in the transfer portal. Miami likes its roster of QBs, but there are not a lot of experienced QBs on the 2025 Miami roster.

Miami currently has 2024 signee Judd Anderson, Nickel and Williams as the projected QBs on the 2025 roster. The expectation is for Miami to pursue a QB in the transfer portal. Williams played in five games and made two starts as a true freshman in 2024. Taking a redshirt in 2024, Williams played in two games, including the Pop-Tarts Bowl.

Nickel was the first 2025 Miami signee on Wednesday. Nickel is the 257th prospect, 23rd QB and 38th player in Georgia in the 2025 class. Initially a three-star prospect, Nickel has risen in the rankings in the last year. Nickel competed in the Elite 11 QB competition this summer.

Girard Pringle Jr. adds to a strong Miami running back room with the expected returns of Mark Fletcher Jr. and Jordan Lyle in 2025. Pringle is the 132nd prospect, seventh RB and 21st player in Florida in the 2025 class out of Seffner Armwood.

With Damien Martinez declaring for the NFL Draft on Monday, Pringle will compete with 2024 Miami signee Chris Wheatley-Humphrey for carries behind returnees Mark Fletcher Jr. and Jordan Lyle. Fletcher Jr. and Lyle were both key contributors as freshmen in each of the last two seasons. Pringle has an opportunity to contribute in 2025.
