Guard Matthew Able and center Ben Ahmed, both four-star prospects signed their National Letters of Intent with Miami during the first day of the Early Signing Period on Wednesday as officially by the school on social media. Able and Ahmed form the 25th-ranked class nationally per the 247Sports composite rankings.
Able who is 6'5 is the 34th-ranked prospect, eighth shooting guard and seventh player in Florida in the 2025 class out of Fort Lauderdale Sagemont Prep School. Able should get a chance to earn playing time as a true freshman with Miami losing several guards after the 2024-25 season.
Miami guards Jalen Blackmon and Nijel Pack are both in their final seasons of collegiate eligibility. Miami true freshman guard Jalil Bethea is expected to be one and done as a projected 2025 NBA Draft lottery pick. Miami has a lot of depth at guard to absorb those losses on the 2024-25 roster with Able.
Sophomore Paul Djobet, Redshirt Junior A.J. Staton-McCray and true freshmen Austin Swartz and Divine Ugochukwu all project to return for Miami in 2025-26. Jim Larranaga has thrived when his team is guard-oriented. That should remain the same when Able arrives in 2025.
At 6'9 and 300 pounds Ahmed provides Larranaga the size they have often missed over the past few seasons. Ahmed is the 93rd prospect, 14th center and second player in Connecticut per the 247Sports composite rankings in the 2025 class out of Putnam Science Academy.
Ahmed has a 7'3 wingspan and is "absolutely immovable in the lane" per 247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein. Per Finkelstein, Ahmed has to improve his conditioning and is better at playing in a slower paced game at this point of his development. That will have to change with Miami.
Centers Lynn Kidd and Kiree Huie and forwards Matthew Cleveland and Brandon Johnson are all in their last seasons of eligibility for Miami on the frontline. Expect Jim Larranaga to be active in the transfer portal in the spring of 2025 to add frontcourt players in addition to Ahmen to the 2025-26 Miami roster.
