Miami opening 2025 season versus Notre Dame, plus 8 home games total

Miami will host Notre Dame in the 2025 season opener as first reported by Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald on Wednesday. The game could be played anytime between Thursday, August 28 and Monday, September 1 which is Labor Day. Notre Dame is one of eight home games for Miami in 2025.

Miami will also host Bethune Cookman on September 6, South Florida on Sept. 13 and Florida on September 20 to begin the 2025 season. Louisville, North Carolina State, Stanford and Syracuse will play at Miami in ACC play in 2025. Miami has 2025 road games at FSU, Pittsburgh, SMU and Virginia Tech.

Miami has not played Notre Dame since they administered a 41-8 win in 2017. Per Jackson, Miami will play eight scheduled home games for the first time since 1971. This doesn't count seasons when Miami played in the Orange Bowl game. The ACC schedule is usually announced in February.

Miami and Notre Dame played 19 times between 1971 and 1990 with the teams not playing in 1986. During the 1980s and the 1990 game Miami versus Notre Dame was one of the biggest on the college football schedule of that era. Miami usually won blowouts over Notre Dame in that era and the Fighting Irish in close games.

Notre Dame leads the all-time series with Miami 18-8-1. Miami ended a four-game losing streak to Notre Dame with the 2017 win. Notre Dame was 10-1-1 versus Miami in the first 12 meetings. Miami won six of the next eight games versus Notre Dame from 1981 through 1990.

Miami has outscored Notre Dame 207-37 in the last six games played in South Florida. The Hurricanes shut out the Fighting Irish twice in the last six games in Miami and have held them to one touchdown or less four times. Miami and Notre Dame are both currently ranked in the top 10 and could make the College Football Playoff.
