Miami opens ACC Tournament as ninth seed versus California on Tuesday

After finishing ninth in the ACC during the regular season, Miami will begin play in the ACC Tournament in the first round on Tuesday.

Miami will begin ACC Tournament play on Tuesday morning as the ninth seed at 9 AM in Durham, North Carolina, versus 16th seed California. California and Miami did not play during the regular season. Miami lost a chance to earn a first-round bye in the ACC Tournament with a 12-2 loss to Notre Dame on Saturday.

Miami is 31-23 overall and finished 15-14 in the ACC, a half game behind 16-14 Wake Forest. California enters the ACC Tournament 21-30 overall and is 8-21 in the ACC, with their final game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon versus Boston College in Berkeley.

California is 3-17 this season against common ACC opponents to Miami. Miami is 10-4 against common opponents with California. Miami moved up from 33rd to 31st in the NCAA RPI after their 15-1 win over Notre Dame on Saturday night. California dropped to 112th from 99th after its Saturday loss to Boston College.

Miami has won seven of the eight games it has played all-time versus California. After losing 4-3 to California in the 1980 College World Series, Miami has won the last seven games against California. The Hurricanes swept series in Coral Gables against the Golden Bears in 1982 and 1991.

Miami enters the ACC Tournament with five losses in its last six games. California entered their game versus Boston College on Saturday with 15 losses in its previous 17 games. Miami likely needs a win over California to avoid a bad loss on its NCAA Tournament resume.

The winner between California and Miami will play Wake Forest on Wednesday at 9 AM Eastern Daylight Time. The entire ACC Tournament will be televised on the ACC Network. Miami reached the semifinals in the 2024 ACC Tournament. The 2025 ACC Tournament has a new single-elimination format with all 16 teams.

The teams that finish in the top four of the ACC standings during the regular season receive double byes to the quarterfinals. Teams seeded five through eight receive a bye into the second round. The ninth through 16th will play in the first round on Tuesday.
