Instead of ranking the best teams or the best players, Chris Hummer from CBS Sports built an "ultimate college football roster" by choosing the best position group at each spot entering the 2026 season.

Each program could only be used once.

Oregon got the nod at quarterback behind Dante Moore and Dylan Raiola. Moore is among the top quarterbacks in college football and Raiola's experience after two seasons as Nebraska's starter makes him one of the best backup options in the country.

Ole Miss took running back with Kewan Lacy leading the group after a 1,567-yard, 24-touchdown season. Indiana earned the wide receiver spot over bigger-name rooms such as Texas, Ohio State and Miami. Charlie Becker, Nick Marsh, Tyler Morris and Chazz Preston lead the way in the Hoosiers' receiver group.

Georgia landed the tight end position group. Lawson Luckie is expected to lead the room, while Elyiss Williams, Ethan Barbour and Jaden Reddell give the Bulldogs depth.

The offensive line choices went to Texas and Ohio State. Texas was picked at offensive tackle with Trevor Goosby and Wake Forest transfer Melvin Siani. Ohio State earned the interior offensive line spot behind Luke Montgomery and Carson Hinzman, two proven starters with All-American upside.

Miami was chosen at EDGE because of Missouri transfer Damon Wilson, Marquise Lightfoot and Armondo Blount. Wilson had nine sacks and 54 pressures last season, while Lightfoot and Blount are young players Miami expects to take on bigger roles in 2026.

Texas Tech got the defensive tackle spot over other contenders, including Miami and Oklahoma. AJ Holmes and Wake Forest transfer Mateen Ibirogba are high-end talents, while Bryce Butler, Julien Laventure and JoJo Johnson offer quality depth.

Tennessee was the pick at linebacker with Edwin Spillman, Jeremiah Telander, Arion Carter and Penn State transfer Amare Campbell forming one of the deepest groups in the country. Notre Dame earned the cornerback spot behind Leonard Moore, Christian Gray and Colorado transfer DJ McKinney. Alabama closed the superteam at safety with Bray Hubbard and Keon Sabb leading the room.
