Miami picked 6th in ACC, Nijel Pack named pre-season All-Conference
Miami was picked to finish sixth in the ACC preseason poll and Nijel Pack was named first-team All-conference as released on Tuesday. Guard Paul Djobet, forward Matthew Cleveland and Pack are the only players returning to the Miami roster in 2024-25. Miami signed seven transfers and three freshmen to the 2024-25 roster.
Miami received Miami 659 points in the preseason media poll. Duke is the preseason favorite with 42 first-place votes and 956 points. North Carolina was picked second with 11 first-place votes and 924 points, followed by Wake Forest with one first place vote and 800 points, Clemson with 765 points and Virginia with 743.
Pack was the fifth-highest vote-getter on the preseason All-ACC team with 37 points. R.J. Davis of North Carolina leads the preseason All-ACC team with 54 votes, followed by Hunter Sallis of Wake Forest with 52, Duke star-freshman Cooper Flagg with 52 and Markus Burton of Notre Dame with four.
Davis was the lone unanimous selection to the preseason All-ACC team and received 40 of the 54 votes as the ACC Preseason Player of the Year. Flagg received 10 votes and was the near-unanimous selection as Preseason Rookie of the Year. Jeremiah Wilkinson of California received the other vote.
Pack was named to the Preseason All-ACC second-team in 2023-24. This is the fifth season in a row Miami had a player named Preseason first-team All-ACC. Norchad Omier in 2023, Isaiah Wong in 2021 and 2022 and Chris Lykes in 2020 were the previous honorees. Omier earned second-team All-ACC in 2024.
Pack was the third-leading scorer for Miami last season averaging 13.3 points per game, 2.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists while shooting 40.0 percent from the floor, 35,7 percent on three-point attempts and 76.5 percent from the free throw line. Pack missed seven games in 2023-24 because of injuries.
Miami tips off the 2023-24 season versus Farleight Dickinson on November 4. Clemson plays at Miami in the ACC opener for both teams on Saturday, December 7. Chase Hunter and Ian Schieffelin of Clemson were named second-team preseason All-ACC. Miami split two games with Clemson in 2023-24 with the home team winning each time.
