Miami plays 3 game series at North Carolina after getting blown out by Stetson

Miami will travel to North Carolina for a three-game series after losing 11-2 to Stetson on Wednesday.

Miami travels to North Carolina for a three-game series after losing 11-2 to Stetson at home on Wednesday night. The Hurricanes enter the weekend 14-12 and 1-5 in the ACC. North Carolina is 19-6 overall and 4-5 in the ACC. The Tar Heels have won three of their last four games entering the weekend.

Miami had five errors, with three in the fourth inning that led to five Stetson runs, extending the Hatters' lead to 8-0. Reese Lumpkin started for Miami and pitched three innings, allowing six runs, five earned, with two hits, two walks and five strikeouts. The Miami bullpen was not much better, allowing five runs, three earned.

Stetson took the lead in the third on a run-scoring double by Isaiah Barkett, followed by two runs scoring The first two runs Stetson scored in the fourth inning occurred because of errors. The top four hitters for Stetson had seven hits in 17 at-bats with two runs scored and six runs batted in.

Stetson used six pitchers to shut down Miami offensively. Miami had eight hits versus Stetson. The Hurricanes scored on a Derek Williams home run in the fifth and an RBI single by Bobby Marsh in the seventh were the only scoring for Miami. Stetson has won two of the last three versus Miami dating to 2022.

Despite being tied for 10th in the ACC with Virginia Tech, North Carolina is eighth nationally in the RPI. North Carolina is second in the ACC with a 3.62 Earned Run Average. Miami is 15th in the ACC with a .273 batting average and a 5.80 ERA.

North Carolina has two of the top five pitchers in ERA, with Aidan Haugh at 1/.93 and Jake Knapp at 1.99. Fabio Peralta for Miami has the highest batting average, ranking 12th in the ACC at .385 among the players in Chapel Hill this weekend. Hunter Stokely and Luke Stevenson for North Carolina are tied for fifth in the ACC with nine HRs.

Miami returns home on Wednesday to host Bethune-Cookman before playing a three-game series at Pittsburgh next weekend. Bethune-Cookman is 12-13 this season and 3-5 on the road. Pittsburgh is 15-9 overall, 2-4 in the ACC and plays at Boston College this weekend.
