Miami dropped eight spots in the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches polls on Sunday after their 28-23 loss at Georgia Tech on Saturday. Miami remains the highest-ranked team in the ACC despite the precipitous fall in the polls. SMU is 14th in the AP Top 25 and 13th in the Coaches poll.
Despite the loss at Georgia Tech Miami still controls its own path for a berth in the ACC Championship game with the loss by Pittsburgh to Virginia on Saturday night. Pittsburgh tumbled out of the polls with the loss. Clemson and Louisville are the only other ACC teams in the rankings.
Clemson is 17th in the AP Top 25 and 16th in the Coaches Poll. Louisville is 22nd in the AP Top 25 and 24th in the Coaches Poll. Pittsburgh is 28th in the AP Top 25 and 29th in the Coaches Poll. Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama are all ranked ahead of Miami in both polls despite having two losses.
Miami received 907 points in the CAP Top 25 and 820 in the Coaches Poll. Georgia is one spot ahead of Miami in the AP Top 25 with 964 points. Boise State is one spot behind Miami with 839 points. Mississippi is one spot ahead of Miami in the coaches poll with 877 points.
Boise State is also one spot behind Miami in the Coaches Poll with 691 points. Miami fell only two spots in the ESPN Football Power Index to 11th. Clemson and Louisville are right behind Miami in the FPI ranked 12th and 13th. SMU fell one spot in the FPI during their bye week to 17th.
The biggest result for Miami on Saturday was Virginia winning 24-19 at Pittsburgh. Miami controls its own path for a berth in the ACC Championship game with the loss by Pittsburgh. If Miami wins out they will play in the ACC Championship game. Miami would win a two-way tiebreaker with SMU and three-way with Clemson and the Mustangs.
