Miami finished 31-24 in the regular season after losing 12-2 by mercy rule to California in eight innings in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Tuesday. The Hurricanes lost six of their last seven games to fall onto the bubble in the NCAA Tournament after being mentioned as a potential regional host.
Many of the most recent updates were on Tuesday and likely before Miami lost to California. The loss to the Golden Bears is potentially damaging for the Hurricanes. Miami is 39th in the NCAA RPI that is updated through conference tournament games played on Thursday.
Most bracketologies have Miami in the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show is on Monday at noon on ESPN2. Miami will learn if they receive a bid, which regional they will be playing in and their first round opponent if they earn an NCAA Tournament berth.
Miami is 38th in the D1Baseball updated RPI, which is seven spots lower than the Hurricanes were seven days ago. The Hurricanes are 9-11 versus quadrant one opponents, 9-10 against quad two, 2-2 versus quad three and 11-1 versus quad four per D1Baseball.
Micah Beutell of College Baseball Central projects Miami to play in the Conway, South Carolina Regional hosted by Coastal Carolina as the third seed. Beutell projects Miami to play third-seeded Florida in the first game. Miami lost two out of three to Florida in February. South Carolina-Update is the projected fourth seed in Conway.
Baseball America updated their NCAA Tournament bracket on Friday morning with Miami as the third seed in the Nashville Regional to be hosted by Vanderbilt. Miami is projected to play second-seed Texas-San Antonio in the first round, with Eastern Illinois out of the Ohio Valley as the fourth seed in Nashville.
Most of the other brackets were posted before conference tournament play began and at least one other left Miami out of the NCAA Tournament field. Miami has to hope no bid stealers win their conference tournament and nervously wait until Monday to learn if they will receive an NCAA Tournament berth.
