With four of the top 11 teams in the Associated Press Top 25 losing on Saturday, Miami is projected to remain in the top 10 when the rankings are released on Sunday afternoon. Miami was upset 24-21 by Louisville on Friday night.

The other losses by top 11 teams were number five Mississippi at ninth-ranked Georgia, number 11 Tennessee at sixth-ranked Alabama, number seven Texas Tech at unranked Arizona State and 10th-ranked LSU at number 17 Vanderbilt.

The losses by the other four teams in the top 11 and the close margin in the Miami loss to Louisville project to keep the Hurricanes in the top 10. With Notre Dame looming as the 13th-ranked team with two losses, including one to Miami, the Hurricanes should remain ahead of the Fighting Irish in the Top 25.

Notre Dame has won five straight games after losing the season opener to Miami and its second game to Texas A&M. The five-game winning streak by Notre Dame will be valuable for Miami when the initial College Football Playoff Rankings are released on November 4.

Miami hosts Stanford on Saturday and plays at SMU on November 1 before the inaugural CFP rankings are released. The AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches polls are a gauge of where teams rank nationally. The CFP is the important ranking that shows where the committee values teams.

According to the ESPN Football Power Index, Miami has the 64th remaining strength of schedule nationally. After SMU, Miami hosts Syracuse and North Carolina State and finishes the season at Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh. At SMU and Pittsburgh, project to be the most difficult remaining Miami regular-season games.

Miami will likely have to win out to earn an ACC Championship Game berth. Georgia Tech leads the ACC with a 4-0 record. SMU and Virginia are tied for second at 3-0, Duke and Pittsburgh are 3-1 and California and Louisville are 3-1. The ACC is wide open with six weeks remaining in the regular season.
