Miami pulls away with 2 late touchdowns in win over Florida

Miami needed two late touchdowns to pull away from Florida in a 26-7 win on Saturday night.

Miami needed two touchdowns in the final 4:08 on Saturday night to pull away in a 26-7 win at Hard Rock Stadium. The Hurricanes received a dominant defensive performance but were not able to put Florida away until the two late TDs.

CharMar Brown had a one-yard touchdown with 4:08 remaining in the game and Mark Fletcher Jr. equaled that with 1:57 remaining to seal the outcome. Fletcher had 24 carries for 116 yards and a TD and Brown ran 18 times for 80 yards and two scores.

Miami led 13-0 at halftime as they outgained Florida 198-32. Florida cut the deficit to 13-7 with a 11 play, 80 yard drive in 6:12 on their first drive of the third quarter. Florida outgained Miami 99-42 in the third quarter. Miami had 42 yards on 11 plays on their first drive of the second half before they had to punt.

Carson Beck threw an interception on the first play of the second drive of the third quarter to put Florida in position with an opportunity to take the lead. Florida drove to the Miami 33-yard line and chose to go for it on fourth down instead of kicking a field goal to cut the deficit to three.

Miami stopped Florida wide receiver T.J. Abrams a yard short of a first down on fourth and three. Florida and Miami exchanged three-and-outs before the first of two decisive drives put the game away. Miami outgained Florida 104-10 in the fourth quarter, with 72 rushing.

Other than the third quarter, Miami was dominant on the line of scrimmage. Miami outgained Florida 344 yards to 141. Florida had 99 yards in the third quarter, as the Miami defense was stifling in the first half and in the fourth quarter, with the Gators still in the game,

Miami held Florida to 61 yards passing and 80 rushing. The Hurricanes held the Gators to one set of downs eight times in the win. Florida was zero for 13 on third down but converted three of four on fourth. Miami was eight for 16 on third down. Miami is at Florida State on October 4 after a bye next week.
