Florida International overcame two Miami rallies to defeat the Hurricanes 5-4 in 10 innings on Wednesday night. The Panthers had a 3-0 lead after three innings and took a 4-3 lead in the sixth that they carried into the ninth before earning the walk-off win in 10 innings.

Miami got a popup with one out and the bases loaded in the 10th inning, but a Brylan West single scored Ryan Hutner to give FIU its second win over Miami in three games this season. FIU and Miami will conclude their four-game season series on May 7 in Coral Gables.

FIU scored first with a three-run third inning. Javier Crespo gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead with an RBI single. Andrew Ildefonso extended the lead to 3-0 with a two-run single. Miami rallied to tie the score with a three-run fifth inning as the first four hitters got on base.

Renzo Gonzalez walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A Michael Torres single scored Gonzalez. Jake Ogden followed with a single to center field to advance Torres to second. Max Galvin followed Ogden with a walk to load the bases. Daniel Cuvet reached on a fielder's choice to score Torres.

Miami tied the score after a Dorian Gonzalez lineout to shortstop. FIU shortstop Kareh Valentin threw to first to try and double up Cuvet. Odgen sprinted from third to home on the throw to first to tie the game at three. An RBI triple from ninth batter Cole Cleveland put FIU in front 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The score remained 4-3 until Evan Taveras tied the score at four with a solo home run on a 2-1 pitch to lead off the ninth inning. Torres got to third base on a wild pitch with one out, but Cuvet flew out to center field to end the top of the ninth. FIU went down in order in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.

Miami is at Boston College for a three-game series this weekend. Boston College will host their 13th annual ALS Awareness Game on Sunday at noon at Fenway Park in honor of baseball alum Pete Frates, who passed away from the disease at 34 years old in 2019.
