Miami has an average seed of 2.36 in the latest College Football Playoff projections in a poll of 11 ESPN writers. The Hurricanes received one first-place vote, five second-place projections and five that currently have Miami as a three seed.

Alabama and Mississippi are each projected five times as the highest seed and Georgia is once in the same quarter of the draw as Miami. Georgia Tech is projected four times as the lower seed in the same quarter of the draw as Miami, USC three times, LSU twice and Memphis once.

If Miami finishes the regular season undefeated, they will likely play a quarterfinal in the Orange Bowl Game. Hard Rock Stadium is hosting a CFP quarterfinal for the Orange Bowl and the National Championship Game. Miami could play two out of its three CFP games if they advance to the title game.

The first official CFP rankings will be released on Tuesday, November 4. Miami hosts Louisville on Friday and Stanford on October 25 before playing at SMU on November 1 in games preceding the inaugural 2025 CFP rankings release.

Miami is currently second in the Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches poll released on Sunday. Ohio State was first in both polls, Indiana third, Texas A&M fourth, Mississippi fifth and Alabama sixth. The poll varies after the top six teams.

Georgia Tech, 12th in both polls and Virginia, 18th in the AP Top 25 and 19th in the USA Today coaches poll, are the other ranked ACC teams in week eight. If Miami earns an ACC Championship Game berth, playing a ranked team would be beneficial for the Hurricanes and their CFP resume.

Miami has wins over Notre Dame, 13th in the AP Top 25 and 15th in the USA Today Coaches poll and South Florida, which is 19th and 23rd. The falls of 2-4 Florida and Florida State, who is 3-3 after starting the season 3-0, which included a win over Alabama, will not be as impressive as first thought.
