Miami's future at quarterback gets another boost with opening performance at Elite 11

Hurricanes commit Israel Abrams keeps proving why he is the future at Miami.

Rivals ranked Israel Abrams as the No. 4 top regional performer from the Elite 11 regional circuit, putting the Miami commit behind Kentucky commit Jake Nawrot, Nebraska commit Trae Taylor and Ole Miss commit Keegan Croucher.

Abrams was listed ahead of Virginia Tech commit Peter Bourque, Oregon commit Will Mencl, Florida commit Davin Davidson, Clemson commit Kharim Hughley, LSU commit Peyton Houston, uncommitted quarterback Dane Weber and Michigan commit Kamden Lopati.

Miami's 2027 QB commit lands in good company before Elite 11 Finals

Abrams is already locked into the Elite 11 Finals, which are scheduled for May 29 in Los Angeles. The 6-foot-4 quarterback from Montini Catholic in Illinois is the No. 2 quarterback in the 247Sports Composite for the 2027 cycle. 

Abrams committed to Miami on April 3, giving Mario Cristobal and Shannon Dawson a high school QB prospect that might just put an end to the transfer portal sweepstakes that Miami takes part in every offseason.

The Hurricanes' 2027 class is No. 4 overall and No. 1 in the ACC in the On3/Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Former Miami QBs at Elite 11

  • Jarren Williams, 2018 signee: Williams earned a spot in the 2017 Elite 11 before signing with Miami. He was in Mark Richt's final full recruiting class.
  • Tyler Van Dyke, 2020 signee: Van Dyke reached the 2019 Elite 11 Finals as a Miami commit, then later became the Hurricanes' starter and one of the ACC's top passers during the 2021 season.
  • Jacurri Brown, 2022 signee: Brown made the 2021 Elite 11 Finals as a Miami commit out of Lowndes High School in Georgia.
  • Jaden Rashada, 2023 commit: Rashada competed at the 2022 Elite 11 Finals while committed to Miami, though he later flipped from the Hurricanes and did not sign with the program.
  • Emory Williams, 2023 signee: Williams also competed at the 2022 Elite 11 Finals.
  • Luke Nickel, 2025 signee: Nickel reached the 2024 Elite 11 Finals before signing with Miami.
  • Dereon Coleman, 2026 signee: Coleman made the 2025 Elite 11 Finals as a Miami commit after a strong high school career in Orlando.
