Do the Miami Hurricanes have the best wide receiver room in the country? Do they have the best group of pass catchers in school history? We'll have to wait for both answers, but the potential of this unit is through the roof and the college football media is taking note.

"I think Miami has got to be there," Josh Pate said during his weekly show. First, because Malachi Toney is there for his second year, and secondly, Cooper Barkate, Duke's leading receiver, also transferred from Miami."

Miami's WR room could be the best in the nation

Toney's production as a freshman speaks for itself, and with the addition of Barkate, it should allow him to be even more involved in the offense at various levels, making him more of an all-purpose threat that can line up everywhere.

Barkate was not Miami's only major portal acquisition for the room. Bringing Vandrevius Jacobs from South Carolina and Cam Vaughn from West Virginia adds more experience and production. Both players had over 30 receptions and 500 yards last season for their respective programs.

The Hurricanes also have some young, emerging talent, as noted by Pate.

"Joshua Moore is a potential breakout guy. They've got some good depth from the portal, and you know who they've got throwing the ball to them," Pate added."

Where does this group of Miami WRs rank in program history?

Among programs in the country, Miami will be competing with Ohio State for the honor of the best group of wide receivers. Obviously, the Buckeyes have Jeremiah Smith, who will be a top five pick in next year's draft, and freshman Chris Henry, the top receiver in the 2026 draft, but the Hurricanes have the edge in overall depth with the additional 2,000-plus yards of production coming in the program from the portal.

As for all-time Hurricane teams? This group feels comparable to the one that Miami had in 2000 with Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne and Andre King, along with a young Andre Johnson and tight end Jeremy Shockey. Could they be better? It's certainly possible and having Darian Mensah throwing the ball to them might be the thing that puts them over the top.
