Miami did not have to wait long to see their name announced in the NCAA Tournament on Monday. Southern Mississippi is hosting second-seeded Alabama, third seed Miami and fourth-seeded Columbia in the Hattiesburg regional. Miami received a berth after losing six of its last seven games.
The 2025 season has occurred in three chapters for Miami. Miami began the season 14-14 overall and 2-7 in the ACC. Then the Hurricanes won 16 of their next 18 overall and 12 out of 14 in the ACC before losing six of their last seven. That included a 12-2 run rule loss to last-place California in the ACC Tournament.
Now Miami gets ready for its fourth chapter of the season versus Alabama in their first game in the NCAA Tournament. Alabama enters the NCAA Tournament 13th nationally in the RPI, Southern Mississippi is 19th, Miami 41st and Columbia is 61st.
Alabama and Miami have not played since 1999. Miami leads the all-time series versus Alabama 8-7. Eight of the previous games between Alabama and Miami were in the NCAA Tournament. Alabama and Miami have each won four games in their series in the NCAA Tournament.
Miami leads the all-time series with Columbia, 4-2. Columbia and Miami split two games in the 2015 NCAA Tournament Coral Gables regional, with the Hurricanes winning the decisive game 3-0 to advance to the super regional. Miami and Southern Mississippi have never played.
Alabama is 41-16 overall and tied with Mississippi and Tennessee at 16-14 in the SEC. Columbia is 29-17 overall, tied for the Ivy League regular season title with Yale at 16-5 and won the conference tournament with a 14-6 win over Harvard in the championship game.
Southern Mississippi is 44-14 overall and finished 24-6 in the Sun Belt Conference, two games behind Coastal Carolina. Coastal Carolina beat Southern Mississippi 7-5 in the Sun Belt Tournament Championship Game on Sunday.
