Miami shortstop Jake Ogden will return for the 2026 season, per James Knable, who runs multiple Hurricanes social media accounts. Ogden was a key player and the leadoff hitter for Miami in 2025 as the Hurricanes advanced to their first super regional since 2016.

Ogden completed his first season with Miami in 2025 after playing for Division II Barry University as a freshman in 2023 and North Carolina-Greensboro in 2024. Playing at his highest level, Ogden had his best season in 2025, setting career highs with a .336 batting average, 63 runs scored, 84 hits, 14 doubles and nine home runs.

Ogden added a .402 on-base percentage, a .500 slugging percentage and a .902 OPS. Ogden returning to Miami after not being selected in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft that was held Sunday and Monday. The return of Ogden gives Miami one of the best left sides of the infield in 2026.

Junior third baseman Daniel Cuvet also returns for Miami in what will be his final season with the Hurricanes. Cuvet has a .361 batting average with 42 HRs and 159 runs batted in during his two seasons with Miami. The Hurricanes should be a top 25 2026 team in the preseason rankings.

Ogden finished third in the ACC in at-bats, ninth in runs scored and eighth in hits during the 2025 season. Ogden led Miami with 63 runs scored, 84 hits, 2023 at-bats and 13 steals in 2025. Throughout the NCAA Tournament, Ogden delivered clutch hits with six RBIs in seven games.

Ogden should compete for ACC and national recognition in 2026. The Brooks Wallace Award, honoring the top collegiate shortstop nationally, named Ogden a semifinalist in 2025. With another big season in 2026, Ogden should put himself in position to be drafted next summer by an MLB team.
