Miami stays the same in AP Top 25, moves up in Coaches Poll
Miami continued to roll offensively winning 45-38 at Louisville on Saturday. The Associated Press Top 25 kept Miami sixth and AFCA Coaches polls moved Miami to the fifth-ranked team nationally following their win at Louisville. Metrics have Miami slightly lower. Miami remained 10th in the ESPN Football Power Index.
There are four ACC teams ranked in both polls topped by Miami. Clemson is ninth in both polls, Pittsburgh is 19th in the AP Top 25 and 20th in the Coaches Poll and SMU is 22nd in both polls. Miami does not play Clemson, Pittsburgh, or SMU in the regular season, but one of those three would be the likely ACC Championship Game opponent.
Miami received 1,242 in the AP Top 25. Texas fell from first to fifth with 1,257 points. Oregon ascended from second to first in both polls, Georgia is second, Penn State third and Ohio State fourth in both polls. No 2024 Miami opponent is in the week nine rankings of either poll.
Clemson received 984 points in the AP Top 25, Pittsburgh 396 and SMU 313. Syracuse is 27th with 15 points in the AP Top 25 and 27 in the AFCA Coaches Poll and Duke is 31st with two points in the AP Top and 29th in the AFCA Coaches Poll with seven points.
Miami received 1,087 points in the Coaches Poll just ahead of Texas which has 1,082 first-place points. Clemson received 907 points in the Coaches Poll. SMU 359 and 249 points. Duke and Syracuse who Miami plays in November were both among other teams receiving votes.
Duke or Syracuse being ranked when they play Miami would likely help the Hurricanes in the eyes of the College Football Playoff committee. Duke hosts SMU this weekend before playing at Miami on November 2. Syracuse plays Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Boston College, California and Connecticut before hosting Miami on November 30.
