A week after Miami lost 11-2 to Stetson at home, Florida International earned a 10-2 win in Coral Gables on Tuesday night. Miami dropped to 15-15 with the loss and is now 4-4 in midweek games. FIU took a commanding lead in the first inning and put the game away in the ninth.
Four first-inning doubles and one single drove in five runs in the first to give FIU a commanding lead before Miami had their turn to bat. A Dorian Gonzalez home run and a Michael Torres single cut the Miami deficit to 5-2 after two innings. FIU answered immediately with a solo HR in the top of the third by Javier Crespo to go up 6-2.
The score remained 6-2 until FIU scored four in the top of the ninth to truly put the game away. A wild pitch, a double and a single plated the four FIU runs in the ninth inning. Austin Dearing led FIU with three hits in four at-bats, two runs scored and three runs batted in.
Six different FIU pitchers held Miami in check offensively. Jaydon Bishop was the pitching star for FIU. Bishop pitched four innings, allowing one hit and one walk with four strikeouts. Reese Lumpkin pitched 0.2 inning for Miami, allowing five runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Miami finished with only six hits. None of the Miami batters had more than one hit in the loss to FIU. FIU and Miami have each won one game in the three-game season series. Miami is at FIU on April 23 to decide the season series.
Pittsburgh hosts Miami in a three-game series this weekend. The Panthers are 16-11 overall and 3-6 in the ACC. Pittsburgh played on Wednesday night at West Virginia. Miami enters the weekend with a 2-7 record in the ACC.
