After an 89-54 loss at Duke on Jan. 14 and a 117-74 defeat to SMU on Saturday, Miami suffered its third consecutive mega blowout loss 88-51 at Stanford on Wednesday night. Miami trailed 25-5 in the first half and the deficit remained double digits the rest of the way. The Hurricanes fell to 4-15 overall and 0-8 in the ACC.

Miami made a push late in the first half and early in the second half to cut the deficit to 11 points. Stanford outscored Miami 51-25 the rest of the game after the Hurricanes scored the first five points of the second half. Stanford had a 14-0 first-half run when they built the lead to 20 points and had its biggest lead at 79-40 in the second half.

Matthew Cleveland led Miami with 19 of his 23 points in the second half and Lynn Kidd paced the Hurricanes with eight of his 10 points in the opening 20 minutes. Miami held Stanford to 43.8 percent shooting from the field and 4-14 on 3-point attempts in the first half with the Cardinal not shooting well after a hot start.

Miami regressed to the mean of its continuously porous defense this season in the second half. Stanford shot 60.6 percent in the second half and made seven of 15 3-point attempts in the final 20 minutes. Kyle Smith's team finished the game shooting 52.3 percent and made 11 of 29 3-point attempts in a dominating win.

Miami's lack of offense was equally the problem on Wednesday night. Miami shot 35.1 percent and made two of 15 3-point attempts. Stanford outscored Miami 28-4 in points off turnovers. Miami had six assists on 20 made field goals to 18 on 34 made baskets for Stanford.

The game at Stanford was the first of Miami's two-game road trip to the Bay Area. Miami plays on Saturday at California, with an 8:30 p.m. Eastern time tip-off. California beat Florida State 77-68 on Thursday to improve to 9-9 overall and 2-5 in the ACC.
