Miami top four in Associated Press Top 25
Miami moved up from fifth to fourth in the Associated Press Top 25 released on Sunday. Miami found out earlier in the day they were also fourth in the USA Today Coaches poll after they also moved up from fourth. The ranking for Miami is the highest for Miami since they were second in the week 13 2017 poll.
Miami received 1,348 points in the week 11 poll. Penn State fell three spots to sixth after a 20-13 loss to Ohio State on Saturday. Ohio State, Miami and Texas all moved up to third through fifth with the fall by Penn State. Oregon is first in the AP Top 25 followed by Georgia and Ohio State ahead of Miami.
Oregon is first in the AP Top 25 with 1,550 points with 62 points. Georgia is second with 1.449 points and Ohio State had 1,442 points. With Oregon and Ohio State now appearing on a collision course for the Big 10 Championship Game, Miami has a chance to move up to third nationally entering the College Football Playoff.
Miami is one of five Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the AP Top 25. SMU moved up seven spots to 13th with 752 points after its 48-25 win over Pittsburgh. Clemson fell eight spots to 19th and has 447 points after its 33-21 loss to Louisville. Pittsburgh fell five spots to 23rd with 203 points and Louisville 25th with 113 points.
Miami won 52-45 at Louisville last month. Clemson, Pittsburgh and SMU are not on the 2024 Miami regular season schedule. Miami and SMU will play in the ACC Championship if they win out after the loss by Clemson on Saturday. Wins over Louisville and potentially SMU will help Miami in the CFP seeding.
David Hale of ESPN reported on Sunday the 4-0 record Miami has versus the top 40 in the ESPN Football Power Index is the best nationally. Miami currently ranks ninth in the FPI. Miami has the 46th toughest schedule nationally and 49th most difficult remaining schedule.
