It goes without saying, but the Miami Hurricanes football team was fully blessed with incredible quarterback play in 2024. Cam Ward made his way to town from Washington State and he put up some historic numbers for Mario Cristobal and his offense.
However, when Ward made his way to Coral Gables, everyone knew he was going to be one and done with the program and make his way to the NFL - some analysts have him projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in late April, which would be great to see.
While that's awesome for Ward, it leaves a major question for the fanbase: who will be the team's starting quarterback in 2025? Miami didn't make a splash in the portal at the position, which has (so far) caught people off guard. Because of this, people on social media continue to wonder what Cristobal might have up his sleeve.
Who will be the Miami Hurricanes starting quarterback for the 2025 season?
The good news is that Miami's offensive line is going to be unreal next season, with James Brockermeyer being the latest get for the group. However, we've got to wait and see who Cristobal will go with as his starter behind center.
A lot of people think the first look might go to backup QB Emory Williams. Williams signed with Miami in 2023 and he's been waiting for his chance to lead the offense. In the loss to Iowa State in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, though, he looked rough with the ball in his hands.
Williams ended up completing just 5-of-14 pass attempts for 26 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Yeah, that's never going to cut it. Following his performance in that bowl loss, plenty of Miami supporters have been calling for Cristobal to bring in some outside help.
The thing is, who can Cristobal target? The top QB transfers are already off the board. There was speculation that Miami made a run for John Mateer, also a Washington State transfer, but he followed Ben Arbuckle to Oklahoma.
Of late, Carson Beck and Quinn Ewers continue to get brought up. Beck announced he was going to head to the NFL Draft, but he has one more year of eligibility left. Could Cristobal convince him to postpone his pro career for one last ride with Miami?
Ewers is also planning on entering the NFL Draft, but a report dropped saying a team is ready to give him around a $6 million NIL deal for him to play one last college season. Texas and Ewers are focused on taking down Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, but the QB's future plans will be a major topic of conversation after that game goes final.
Miami is also bringing in touted QB signee Luke Nickel. Might the Hurricanes give the true freshman a shot to start at such a young age? Who knows. What we do know is that Cristobal has a tough decision on the way and he appears to be keeping things pretty close to the vest. Hey, that's the way he likes it, as we're all going to be guessing for quite some time who his QB1 will be for next fall.
