Miami WR alum Philip Dorsett lobbies for former USC 5-star Zachariah Branch
Former Miami wide receiver Philip Dorsett who is in the top 10 in several receiving categories in program history lobbied for the Hurricanes to to recruit former five-star USC wideout Zachariah Branch who is expected to enter the transfer portal per a report. Dorsett II posted "I mean you see what Restrepo doing"
Miami WR Xavier Restrepo set the career program record for receiving yards and tied the reception record versus Duke on Saturday. Restrepo is on pace to break the Miami single-season reception record he broke in 2023 and he is 80 yards to tie the program record for one year.
Branch won the Jet Award in 2023 honoring the top return specialist in college football. Branch had 24 kick returns for 442 yards and one touchdown and 16 punt returns for 332 yards and another score. In 2023 Branch also produced 31 receptions for 320 yards and two TDs.
USC has used Branch more as a receiver in 2024 with 35 receptions for 404 yards without a TD. Branch has five kickoff returns for 105 yards and 10 punt returns for 54 yards in 2024. Like Devin Hester before him, teams are likely avoiding kicking to Branch.
Branch was the fourth-ranked player, top WR and number one player in Nevada in 2024 out of powerhouse Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. Miami could have an in with Branch. Miami true freshman tight end Elija Lofton was a teammate of Branch at Bishop Gorman.
How well Miami has performed this season as first nationally in scoring and total offense would have to be attractive to Branch. There is not a lot of information on whether or not Branch will transfer other than the re-post by Dorsett. Branch would be a huge addition for Miami with Jacolby George and Restrepo moving on after the 2024 season.
