Michael Irvin has been on one for a while now and with the Hurricanes heading back to the region (albeit not the stadium) that 'Playmaker' carved out his Hall of Fame career, you knew Wednesday's game against Ohio State had special meaning.

And a little more than a week after he was kissing Mario Cristobal on the cheek, Irvin decided to go from affection to aggression after Miami pulled off the upset, winning 24-14 and ending the Buckeyes' quest for a repeat championship.

"Belt to ass!" Irvin shouted after he used a strap to take several whacks on an Ohio State jersey. "We did it every week, and we're going to keep doing it until we land back home in our stadium for the national championship."

The CFP championship game will be held on January 19 at Hard Rock Stadium.

The Hurricanes have one more stop before home

Before the Hurricanes can try to claim a sixth national championship in the comfortable confines of the Hard Rock Stadium, they will head to Arizona to play either Ole Miss or Georgia in the Fiesta Bowl.

The Hurricanes have had some of their highest moments playing in championship games at home, claiming championships in 1983, 1987 and 1991 after winning the Orange Bowl in... The Orange Bowl, their former home stadium.

Meanwhile, the Fiesta Bowl is the sight of two of the darkest days in Miami football history. The Hurricanes lost to Penn State in the game to cap off the 1986 season, a shocking 14-10 defeat to the Nittany Lions with Heisman winner  Vinny Testaverde throwing five interceptions. And Miami failed to repeat as BCS champions, losing the 2003 Fiesta Bowl to Ohio State in double overtime.

Last night, the Hurricanes got payback on the Buckeyes. Next week they can bury the demons that have haunted them for nearly 40 years in the Fiesta Bowl.
