Mike Norvell tried to rally Florida State's fan base with a quick promise this week: "It's coming." In a time when the Miami Hurricanes just banked a 10-3 CFP win at Texas A&M, that's an easy line for Canes fans to clown, especially after the Seminoles finished 5-7.

Mike Norvell has not been able to get the job done at FSU
The Seminoles are 7-17 over the past two seasons and the program had reached a point where leadership has publicly acknowledged changes are needed. Norvell is still getting another year, but the results will need to be better. Norvell is 38-33 through six seasons with only two winning seasons. Florida State finished 2-10 in 2024, which was the program's worst record since 1974.
Earlier this season, the Hurricanes went into Doak Campbell Stadium and beat Florida State 28-22. The Seminoles also lost 40-21 at Florida, which put them at 5-7 and knocked them out of bowl eligibility.
Norvell's best stretch is what has bought him the benefit of the doubt. Florida State went 13-1 in 2023 and won the ACC, but then was left out of the CFP. That 2023 season ended with a 63-3 Orange Bowl loss to Georgia, and while FSU had a ton of players opt out of playing, it was tough to ignore. Also, Georgia could have had more players opt out of the game, but for whatever personal/team reasons, they had more opt in than FSU. Some see that as a testament to the difference in head coaches.
The Hurricanes don't want to focus on the noise as they now have a playoff game coming against Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. Miami is playing football games that matter on a national stage, while Norvell is trying to convince Florida State fans to stay patient.
