Running back Jordan Lyle, who was third on Miami in 2024 with 400 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground on 54 carries, was named by 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins as one of his potential second-year breakout players in 2025.
Lyle is on track to have a bigger role for Miami with leading rusher Damien Martinez leaving for the NFL Draft. Mark Fletcher Jr., who had 607 yards rushing and nine TDs, and Lyle project as the primary ball carriers for Miami in 2025. Miami returns rising redshirt freshman Chris Wheatley-Humphrey and has 2025 signee Girard Pringle Jr.
Earlier this week, Ivins' podcast host Cooper Petagna named Miami wide receiver Joshisa Trader as one of his 2024 potential second-year breakout players. Trader was the highest-ranked 2024 Miami offensive signee. With great depth at WR, Lyle had a bigger opportunity to be productive as a freshman in 2024.
Fletcher and Lyle will be the only holdovers for Miami at the skill positions on offense who were significant contributors in 2024. Miami lost their top six receivers, leaving passer and leading rusher from 2024. Fletcher, Lyle and four of the top six offensive linemen returning for Miami in 2025 provides the Hurricanes with continuity on offense.

Hawaii quarterback Michael Alajedo, Michigan RB Jordan Marshall, Texas OL Brandon Baker and Tennessee WR Mike Matthews were the other offensive potential second-year breakout players projected by Ivins. The other four players listed by Ivins had far more limited roles than Lyle as a freshman.
Lyle was the best freshman for Miami on offense in 2024. Cornerback O.J. Frederique was the best freshman on the entire Miami team in 2024. As they enter their sophomore seasons, Frederique and Lyle are experienced players with proven production in college. Both should have bigger 2025 seasons as sophomores.
