Miami 2026 commit Dereon Coleman is one of the 20 participants in the Elite 11 quarterback competition in Manhattan Beach, California, this week. Coleman is mentioned by Andrew Ivins of CBS Sports in his article "2025 Elite 11 Finals offer glimpse into college football's future: Names, trends to know before event begins."

Coleman committed to Miami over about 20 other programs, 17 of which are in power conferences. Coleman is the 203rd prospect, 13th QB and 28th player in Florida in the 2026 class out of Orlando, Jones. In two years as the QB for Jones, Coleman has proven to be a true dual threat under center.

Coleman completed 69.0 percent of his pass attempts for 5,648 yards, 44 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 133.3 passer rating with 702 rushing yards and another eight scores in the past two seasons. Coleman would be a true dual-threat QB Miami has not had since D'Eriq King.

Coleman has been committed to Miami the longest in the 2026 class. As a QB and the longest committed player, Miami has become an important voice in helping recruit other prospects in the 2026 class. Miami is eighth in the 247Sports 2026 composite rankings.

"Dereon Coleman 3-star | No. 19 QB, One of the best pure passers in the country. Lacks the ideal size for the position, but finds ways to get the job done with his lightning-quick release and exit velocity. Might be a darkhorse to take home MVP honors as he has dominated in this type of setting since he was a youngster. Reminds us of: Tyler Huntley"
Andrew Ivins, CBS Sports

At 6'0.5 and 160 pounds, Coleman is a bit undersized and will need to add mass and muscle to his frame. Coleman improved significantly in 2024, completing 72.8 percent of his pass attempts with a 141.2 QB rating. The future for Miami is uncertain at QB behind Carson Beck.

Huntley was a three-year starter at Utah who completed 67.2 percent of his pass attempts for 7,351 46 TDs, 20 interceptions, a 152.6 passer rating and had 1,146 rushing yards and 16 TDs. Huntley spent four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and is entering his second year with the Dolphins.
