During his eponymous podcast the Wiltfong Whiparound earlier this week, Steve Wiltfong, the On3 Vice President of National College Football Recruiting and Transfer Portal discussed potential flips to Miami with less than three weeks remaining until the three-day Early Signing Period from December 4-6.
Miami flipped four-star edge rusher Hayden Lowe from USC earlier this week. Four-star edge rusher Herbert Scroggins has been committed to Miami since June. Miami also has commitments from three-star defensive linemen Mykah Newton and Donte Simpson in the 2025 class.
Simpson committed to Miami in August and Newton flipped from North Carolina State two weeks later. Miami signed an elite 2024 DL class. Tackle Justin Scott, edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot and DL Armondo Blount were all five-star prospects who signed with Miami in the 2024 class.
Miami also signed DTs Artavius Jones and Daylen Russell and edge rushers Cole McConathy, Booker Pickett Jr. and Elias Rudolph in the 2025 class. Expect Miami to add more DL in its 2025 class. Wiltfong discussed potential DL flips to Miami in the next three weeks.
"Jarquez Carter is an instate defensive tackle recruit. Hayden Lowe was the last defensive end prospect on the board for Miami. They want to add another defensive tackle to this class. Jarquez
Carter's Target Numero Uno.
If you ask me today I think he still sticks with Ohio State, but Miami is plucking along there and there was a time where it looked like Hayden Lowe was going to stick with USC, he didn't. Miami will keep pushing for Jarquez Carter and we'll see what happens.
But the guys I listed (see the other posts quoting the Wiltfong Whiparound) are the ones I know they're on this is a really good defensive class for Miami...Particularly in the secondary and they want to build on that with this push that they're trying to make and winning the ACC and then getting into the college football playoff.
No doubt about it...Mario Cristobal making that run for a top-five class...a huge flip of Hayden Lowe."
Carter is the 315th-ranked player, 27th DT and 42nd prospect in Florida out of Newberry in the 2025 class and committed to Ohio State. Miami flipped running back Mark Fletcher in the 2023 class and RB Jordan Lyle and Scott in the 2024 class from Ohio State. Could the Hurricanes flip another Buckeyes commit in 2025?
Miami has six defensive backs committed for 2025. Two of the 2025 Miami DB commits listed by On3 are CBs and four safeties. Four of the 2025 Miami DB commits are blue-chips and the other two are three stars. Mario Cristobal and his staff are continuing to build Miami into a top-10 roster nationally.
