On his eponymous podcast the Wiltfong Whiparound this week On3 Vice President, National College Football Recruiting and Transfer Portal Steve Wiltfong spent about five minutes discussing potential flips for Miami. Wide receiver will be a position to watch for Miami with less than three weeks remaining until the Early National Signing Period.
Miami flipped four-star WR Joshua Moore from Florida in October. Three-star 2025 WRs Malachi Toney and Daylyn Upshaw are also committed to Miami in the 2025 class. Toney re-committed to Miami at the end of October. The 2025 Miami WR signees will join an elite group at the position from the 2024 class.
Ny Carr, Chance Robinson and Joshisa Trader all project to have productive careers for Miami. Miami loses Xavier Restrepo who should hold most Miami receiving records and Jacolby George who has been a productive player for the Hurricanes in the last two seasons.
Sam Brown and Isaiah Horton have eligibility remaining beyond 2024. Sophomore Ray Ray Joseph projects to replace Restrepo as the starting slot receiver in 2025. Miami could seek to add a transfer WR to improve depth in 2025. There is enough depth on the projected 2025 Miami roster to be productive at WR.
Wiltong discussed slot receiver Vernell Brown III, Moore, Oregon commit Dallas Wilson and Texas commit Jaime Ffrench on the Whiparound. Brown, Ffrench and Wilson have varying chances of flipping to Miami according to Wiltfong. Per Wiltfong, Miami already secured one of their top two WR targets.
"Vernell Brown III is another instate target that they're not going to go away on up until the early signing period. That's going to be a tough flip from Florida. He's a Florida Legacy but I do think that conversations remain positive between Miami and the Brown camp and so they'll keep pushing.
But receivers' a major position of need for Miami this cycle. Vernell Brown III and Joshua Moore are their top two Targets at the position. They've already flipped Joshua Moore from Florida. Now they want to do the same with Vernell Brown III.
Maybe they'll poke around on Dallas Wilson currently committed to Oregon. I don't expect them to really pursue Jaime FFrench right now. so Vernell Brown is kind of that guy that they're they're locked in on."
Miami has the 10th-ranked 2025 Class per the On3 Industry Rankings. Moore is the 13th-ranked WR in the 2024 class, Toney is 53rd and Upshaw is 69th. Trader was 10th, Carr 16th and Robinson 27th in the 2024 class among WRs. Miami WR coach Kevin Beard has done an exceptional job recruiting.l
Mario Cristobal and the Miami coaching staff have the Hurricanes trending to sign a third consecutive top-10 class and pushing for a top five group. Defense has been more of the focus for 2025, but Miami has impact players committed on offense as well.
