After narrowly missing out on a College Football Playoff berth in 2024, Miami will rebuild its roster for 2025 and make another attempt with a run for a postseason berth. Brad Crawford of 247Sports projects Miami as a 10 seed at seventh-seeded LSU in his "College Football Playoff projections for 2025: Way-too-early matchup picks."
The biggest question mark for Miami entering the 2025 offseason is who will be the quarterback. Crawford acknowledges "Miami needs to find its quarterback through the portal to warrant a legitimate run to the playoff." The performance by Emory Williams at QB for Miami in the Pop-Tarts Bowl versus Iowa State was troubling.
Williams completed five passes in 14 attempts for 26 yards with no touchdowns and his one interception on the final play of the game on a hail Mary. Miami has a mostly favorable schedule for the second consecutive season. The Hurricanes have eight home games and four on the road in 2025.
Clemson and SMU project to be the biggest challengers again to Miami in 2025. Miami plays at SMU in 2025, but does not play Clemson. SMU plays at Clemson in 2025. The ACC race should be more interesting in 2025 after Clemson, Miami and SMU did not play each other during the 2024 season.
Can the Miami Hurricanes go on a College Football Playoff run in 2025?
"Miami needs to find its quarterback through the portal to warrant a legitimate run to the playoff, but after the opener against Notre Dame, the only challenging contests in terms of comparable talent come against Florida (at home) and SMU (on the road) — unless Florida State returns to respectability."Brad Crawford, 247Sports
The season opener versus Notre Dame and the final non-conference game against Florida can set the foundation for the 2025 Miami season. Miami set the foundation for its 10-3 2024 season and a run at a College Football Playoff berth in 2024 with a 41-17 win in the season opener at Florida.
SMU will be the furthest trip West for Miami in 2025. Miami at SMU should be no later than an Eastern time prime-time kickoff. Miami also plays at Florida State, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech in 2025 - Bethune-Cookman and South Florida in non-conference and Louisville, North Carolina State, Stanford and Syracuse are at Miami in ACC play.
