Darian Mensah has work on his mind this offseason

We're still several weeks from the start of training camp and under 80 days from the season opener against Stanford, but Mensah is on his horse and getting his reps in during some pretty grueling training sessions.

The expectations for Mensah and the Miami Hurricanes are through the roof. With the attention that Mensah's transfer from Duke received, he's going to be feeling the pressure all season as Miami tries to make another deep postseason run and win the school's first ACC conference championship in football.

Darian Mensah gives Miami fans a taste of his offseason workouts

The video shows Mensah going through a ton of agility and strength drills that don't necessarily involve throwing the football, but highlight his explosive athleticism. Mensah has a history of trying to challenge himself with his offseason work. Last year, he spent time training with former Hurricanes QB Cam Ward and his coaches.

"I'm just always looking for ways to improve my game," Mensah said about the decision to work out with Ward. "I think [Darrell Colbert Jr.] is one of the best quarterback coaches in the country so I definitely wanted to go work with him. Worked out with him and some of our receivers."

As Mensah heads into his redshirt-junior season, the numbers continue to trend upward. As a redshirt freshman at Tulane, he threw for 2,723 yards with 22 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He was asked to throw the ball a lot more at Duke last season and was top five in completions (334) and attempts (500). Mensah led the Power 4 with 3,973 yards and was second in the country with 34 touchdowns, finishing behind Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza.

Speaking of the Heisman, Mensah's odds have skyrocketed over the past few months, and he's now tied with Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss for third-best odds in the country at +1100 at FanDuel, just behind Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr (+750) and Texas quarterback Arch Manning (+800).

Darian Mensah knows he has to meet the challenge for Miami

Mensah led Duke to the ACC championship last year. Let me repeat that...Mensah led DUKE to the ACC championship last year...in football! So we know he has the tools to be one of the greats. But the pressure Mensah will face at Miami is far greater than what he experienced as a Blue Devil. He will walk into stadiums as the favorite that everyone wants to see fail rather than the plucky underdog that everyone wants to succeed. To put it another way, Mensah will get the treatment as a Miami Hurricane football player that he saw the Duke basketball players receive last year.

With all that in mind, it's no surprise that Mensah is going all out on his offseason training. He knows what lies ahead and the championship-or-bust nature of the expectations. Mensah doesn't just want to win, he wants to be part of the great Hurricanes legacy.
